Sometimes we get used to the facade that we forget what it’s like to be real
We get so used to the lies and forget what the truth is
Freedom has become such an elusive dream because we’ve spent our lives living in a box
We are so used to living for others, that when we eventually live for ourselves, it feels weird and strange.
We become so comfortable in being what people want us to be, that we forget to be what we want to be.
We try so hard to meet people’s expectations…hello!!!, what happened to your own expectations?
We are so entangled in people’s complements and criticisms that sometimes, we forget to define ourselves (by ourselves).
We are carried away by the highlights of people’s lives and fail to think of the possibility that their behind-the-scenes is probably worse than ours, so we crave for a highlight like theirs, forgetting that nobody has it altogether.
Truth be told, we are all just very good at putting up an “act”. Yes an act. Like we are literally actors and actresses, and except you get a tour of what happens behind the cameras you will never know.
“They look so perfect!” you say, oh my God! you just want your relationship to be like that, but what you don’t know is almost every week she gets beaten by her husband, because she has to deal with his anger problems, yes baby. “I wish I could have her figure, she looks so perfect”, you know that bikini body all ready for summer, but what you don’t know is she is secretly struggling with an addiction.
We all step out every day wanting to be like that person or this person, so carried away by their highlights, forgetting what goes on at night, or how many tears they have dropped at night or what their guilty pleasures feels like, you don’t know what’s happening, all you know is “I wish I could be like her or him” or “I wish I had your life” or “can we exchange lives?’”
Oh really, maybe when you are asking for such, you should also be ready to endure the pain and wahala that comes with the exchange. You would obviously not buy a house because of the paint; you would obviously not buy a plate to decorate your kitchen when half the ones present are broken. My point exactly is stop getting carried away by what you see, I mean if you knew the highlights, the behind the scenes, the commercials and the full movie and still want to exchange, that is totally fine by YOU.
In the end life is just the play we put on.
